/01
The spark
KanaQ was built for Colour Bricks, a construction company running several building projects at once, and is now also offered as a LiveWires product. It is financial management software that covers project budgets and profit and loss, vendors, labour, materials, loans and EMIs, donations, bank reconciliation and reporting.
/02
The friction
The hard part was accounting accuracy, not data entry. The same rupee must never be counted twice, and project, vendor and bank balances must always agree. Splitting one bank payment across several projects, and reading statements from banks that all use different file layouts, added to it.
/03
The wiring
Money is modelled as what is owed and what has been paid, joined by allocations, and balances are always derived from ledger entries, never stored. Permissions are fine-grained and held by roles, every change is audit-logged, and an administrator can switch whole modules off for the company.
/04
The build
A company dashboard, and per-project dashboards with budget against actual and a profit and loss view. Bank statements upload as CSV or Excel, columns are mapped once per bank, duplicates are flagged, and every row is mapped to a project, vendor, labour team or field officer before it reaches the ledger. Payments to a vendor can be allocated across several projects, and loans, EMIs and purchase orders are covered. Reports export to Excel and PDF, and every main page has a short “How it works” guide.
/05
Live
Live behind a sign-in, with automatic checks and deploys on every update. It ships with extensive automated testing across the backend, frontend and end-to-end flows.
/06
What's next
Remaining before full handover: migrating existing records, backup and restore operations, deployment sign-off, and user acceptance testing.
/ SCREENS
Inside the build.
05 screens

01The company dashboard: income, expenses, profit, cash and outstanding in one view.
02Every project with status, contract value, estimated cost and timeline.
03One project: income, cost, outstanding, profit and budget used.
04Budget first: each cost category against its budget, with a status.
05A bank statement reviewed line by line and mapped before it touches the ledger.
